EMSIS Design Console puts the power to quickly change the appearance and requirements of the EMSIS system into the hands of the State. In today's world, any Statewide EMS incident data collection system must be as dynamic as the ever changing data needs of federal and state governments. EMSIS Design Console is a software tool that state personnel can use to configure the dataset, screen appearance, and business logic of EMSIS Server, EMSIS Web, EMSIS Provider, and EMSIS Rover. For an example of this process, click here. There are three major parts to EMSIS Design Console. They are the Data Definition, the Form Builder, and the Business Logic.

Data Definition
The Data Definition contains a definition of every data element within EMSIS data. It comes pre-configured with NEMSIS fields. State personnel can then add to or expand this configuration, while keeping the NEMSIS standard intact.

Form Builder
The Form Builder allows State personnel to alter the input forms used in the EMSIS system. It can be used to move or remove existing data fields or to add a new one. After defining a new field in the Data Definition section, the field is placed on the input form through the Form Builder section. Once defined and placed on the input screen through the Form Builder, the field will be transferred to all other EMSIS products that contain that input form.

Business Logic
The Business Logic portion of EMSIS Design Console allows a user to set up, define, and alter the business rules which define record completeness. A simple example of this would be to set up a validation to check that a patient is not both pregnant and a male. These validations would be applied to each incident as it is saved or transmitted. You can also specify whether the validations are absolute or simply warnings. If set up as absolute, the validations will prevent a record from being saved if the conditions are not met. If setup as a warning, validations will simply warn the user but will ultimately allow them to save the record.
